Caterpillars are butterflies in the making. Helping people connect the dots between the caterpillars eating their plants and the beautiful butterfly or moth they will become, is a challenge I've accepted. Cute photos like this can make them a bit more lovable as well. This is a Black Swallowtail in larval stage, and is probably best known as the caterpillar chomping on your parsley! I just grow enough for everyone and welcome their presence. I can always buy my own parsley from the grocer if needed. Black Swallowtails also host on dill, fennel, and rue. This Black Swallowtail caterpillar is eating rue, which will also host Giant Swallowtails.
